I started playing in 1985 just to take a break from A' Level maths study. Soon I couldn't put my guitar down! I began teaching to a friend's son in 1997 and it all grew from there.


I joined Warwick's Hangover Blues Band in 1994 and am still with them 25 years on, though these days renamed the Sam Powell Blues Band. Here's our Facebook page ...

I consider myself naturally untalented at guitar. Anything I can do is down to a lot of hard work. This makes for a great qualification to teach, as having had to dig deep into every problem along the way makes the way forward for my students very clear. If I ever had any "talent" it was patience, or maybe just plain stubbornness!
